Police in Luweero have arrested a man for hacking and killing his wife who had left their marital home.
The man Grace Bukenya (30) killed his estranged wife Hope Ninsiima (28) on Wednesday night in
Kitante Zone in Wobulenzi town.
He committed the offence at about 10pm.
Ninsiima had walked out of their marital home several days ago, leaving behind their two children.
Their home was located in Kabunyata in Kamila subcounty, Luweero district.
Bukenya tracked down Ninsiima on Wednesday night and confronted her in her one roomed house.
Neighbours say that the couple ended up fighting. Bukenya, who had a machete, then hacked Ninsiima.
Bukenya fled the scene when Ninsiima’s cries for help brought out her neighbours.
Ninsiima was found bleeding profusely from a neck wound that proved fatal.
Police officers led by Ben Kiwanuka, the Luweero Crime Intelligence Officer (CIO) mounted a search at around 11.pm with the aid of a sniffer dog.
Bukenya was finally tracked down at Wankaaya, almost 2 kilometers away from the scene of crime. He was hurrying back to Kabunyata.
Topher Gimei, the Luweero Criminal Investigations Intelligence Officer (CIID), confirms the incident.
Ninsiima’s body has been taken to Kasana Health Center IV Mortuary for an autopsy.
During interrogation, Bukenya admitted to hacking his wife but declined to reveal his motive.
Gimei says Bukenya will be charged with murder once investigations are complete.
