Mbarara Arch Diocese Condemns RDC Over Attacking Church

Mbarara arch diocese has protested and condemned actions of Buhweju District Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Moses Mwebesa’s who evaded a church last week over allegations that its parish priest supports a candidate affiliated to Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

On Friday last week, the Resident District Commissioner accompanied by the District Police Commander (DPC) and District Internal Security Officer (DISO) evaded Bihanga Parishioners “taking over the pulpit and ordering everyone to leave the place.”

The RDC was accusing the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Baingana Kenneth for allegedly supporting a candidate who, in the RDC’s opinion he shouldn’t have supported.

In a statement issued yesterday, Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA) chairman Gaston Ampe said the association condemns the RDC action.

“As the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA), we stand with our brethren, parishioners of Bihanga Parish and their Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Baingana Kenneth in condemning, in the strongest terms the actions of the RDC and his team that were totally uncalled for,” Ampe said.

Adding; “Their actions amounted to defiling of the Mother Church, something that we cannot just sit and ignore! We implore our Parishioners in Bihanga Parish to keep calm, desist from engaging in any form of violence as they seek redress from the concerned authorities.”

Grace Paul Bakyenga, the Mbarara diocese arch bishop and the Christians led by Rev Fr. Baingana want the RDC to publicly apologize to them for his actions.
