Minister Byandala beats up a Journalist

Minister without Portfolio Abraham James Byandala yesterday boxed a journalist who was covering the court proceeding set to rule over his involvement in the Mukono Kyetume-Katosi/Kisoga-Nyenga 74km road corruption scandal at the anti-corruption court.

Byandala beat up Judith Naluggwa of Bukedde TV who was recording the proceedings.

Naluggwa told a local television that she has no grudge with the minister.

“I was capturing him, the he came towards me, grabbed me and boxed me on the lower abdomen. I don’t have a grudge with the minister. I was just doing my work as a journalist in court,” she said.

She has filed an assault case.

When Naluggwa reported the case, she was examined by police surgeon and given medication.

She will make a statement today.

Byandala was at the centre of the road construction scam that saw the government hand over Shs24 billion to suspected conmen.

Abraham Byandala pressured Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) officials to sign a contract with Eutaw, a fake company in 2013.

He is facing charges of abuse office and disobeying lawful orders when he allowed Eutaw to sub-contract the road construction work to a Chinese company, Chongquing International Construction Corporation (CICO) against the advice of the Inspector General of Government (IGG).
