Minister Rukutana Survives Mob Justice

Chaos ensued as a minister Rukutana and city tycoon Bob Kabonero fled in different directions from charged members of Rushenyi.

Rukutana survived being beaten by locals who accused him of interfering in their matter without their consent.

This happened at a meeting held at J&M hotel in Bwebajja that was facilitated by the NRM chairperson H.E Yoweri Museveni to discuss the issues of Rushenyi NRM elections, the delegates from Rushenyi ran violent when they saw Rukutana arrive at the Hotel.

Mr. Rukutana arrived at hotel premises at around 1:00pm allegedly to disrupt the meeting that had been organized by Justus Karuhanga and Al Haji Moses Kigongo the 1st National Vice Chairperson of NRM.

A scuffle ensued and he had to run for his dear life.

One person sustained injuries on the head after he was hit by Rukutana’s body guard with a gun butt.

The bitter crowd was only restrained by Justus Karuhanga who pleaded for calm until Rukutana and his posse retreated.

They accused the minister of highest level of conspiracy and denying them liberty to vote the leaders of their choice by bribing the voters and beating up locals in the village.

At the meeting, NRM’s 1st National Vice Chairperson Al Haji Moses Kigongo asked members to be calm as the matter was being handled by the NRM disciplinary committee and promised to give them feedback today from the disciplinary committee and the party chairman.

Members however demanded that he (Rukutana) must be punished. Moses Kigongo represented the president who was attending to national matters in Tanzania.

“They should disqualify him. He has played on us. This is the third time he is rigging and nothing is done to him,” Enoch Muhumuza stated.

The genesis

Following the recently concluded NRM primary elections, which allegedly were marred with mass rigging, bribery and intimidation, the voters of Ngoma Sub County in Rushenyi County in Ntungamo district resorted to burning of ballots and all the materials at Ngoma sub county headquarters leading to no votes declared.

On Wednesday this week over 500 residents of Rushenyi stormed Kampala Nakasero statehouse demanding to petition him over the rigged election.
