Ministry of health inducts members of HMC for Mbale City

Mbale City health department and other partners like Ministry of Health, USAID have concluded a four day’s workshop where members of the various health management committees in the city were oriented.

The training that ended Thursday saw both health management committee members of both Northern city division and industrial city division trained.

The over 100 attendees were drawn from from health centers like Bukasajja health centre IV , Busamaga health III,Uganda prisons and Uganda police health centers, Nakaloke health centre III, Namatala health centre IV, Bufumbo health centre IV among others.

The induction is a routine arrangement between the city health department where members who manage these units on behalf of government and the community are well grounded on their roles so as to eliminate conflicts between managers engaged in the management of the facility and technical staffs in the facility like nurses.

The training is inline with the health Act which tries to spell out roles of HMC members.

Steven Masiga ,who is also spokesperson Bugisu cultural leadership-Inzu Yamasaaba, challenged fellow managers entrusted to manage the health facilities not to take this as a job but rather an act as good stewards in extending good health services to the sick.

He encouraged participants to work closely with the nurses and other staffs of the health facilities if the city residents are to be served well.

He also reminded nurses about acting professionally and warned them about crimes like negligence and not to break any line of their profession and above all arm themselves with both Geneva guidelines on health and Hippocratic Oath in order to serve to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Masiga also conveyed his appreciation to the city political leadership-both the industrial city division and Mbale city political leadership and technical side for the assignment to manage the HMC on behalf of all stakeholders.

Members of Busamaga health III reported saddening incident of how they dealt with an undesirable situation when they failed to move on well with the incharge of the facility whom they accused of being arrogant.

The community members took the law into their hands and threw her out an act that was condemned by the city health officer, Dr.Mugonya.

The facilitators were drawn from Ministry of health and USAID.

The City health officer Dr. Mugonya encouraged team spirit and tolerance between staffs and health management committee members.

He pledged to be available for guidance and continous training in order to deeper roles of every actor involved in health.

Standing in for mayor Mbale city council ,the secretary for health and social service Aisha Mugoya encouraged the HMC members to be cooperative and guide the staffs for better health service delivery in the city.

She also reminded participants about her foundational routes as village health team champion which enabled her to raise to where she is now.
