Mob Attacks Two Men in Arua City Over Suspected Homosexuality

The landlord condemned the immoral behavior on her property and stunned residents when she revealed that this was not the first time that Luyera (pictured) was hosting fellow men at his house to engage in acts of sodomy

DECEMBER, 2, 2022:Two men in Arua city last week survived the wrath of angry residents for allegedly engaging in sodomy.

Ronald Luyera, a resident of Arua Hill Sub-county and Andrew (last name unknown), a resident of Koboko Town Council were rounded up by residents from their rented house in Arua city on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022.
Luyera works with a prominent nonprofit organization in the area.

According to Drani Rosemary, an eyewitness, the mob stormed the rental property, armed with sticks, stones, and machetes, after receiving a tip from a neighbor.

The landlord, Chandiru Mary, says that the residents stormed her rental house armed with machetes, axes, stones, bricks, and sticks to lynch the duo but were saved by the area Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) who arrested them and handed them over to Arua Central Police Station.

The landlord condemned the immoral behavior on her property and stunned residents when she revealed that this was not the first time that Luyera was hosting fellow men at his house to engage in acts of sodomy.

This incident highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding homosexuality in the country, which lacks standalone legislation addressing the issue. The 2014 Anti-Homosexuality Bill was challenged and nullified in court.

Trade Minister David Bahati in 2009 had proposed a death penalty for those caught involved in the sodomy acts.
We have also learnt that parliament next year wants to introduce another private member’s bill titled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023.

The bill seeks to prohibit any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex and prohibit the promotion or recognition of such relations.
