MUK Students On Strike Over Ongoing Academic Staff Sit-down  Strike

Makerere University students have gone on strike once again, after lecturers resolved not to resume teaching.

In a meeting held yesterday afternoon by Makerere University Academic Staff Association, the lecturers remained resolute in their demands to the university council to pay their 28-billion shilling incentives that have accumulated since February this year.

“We as MUASA, we have decided to continue with the strike until the university pays us for now nine months, from February to date and therefore the university should close so that re-structuring can be thought about” MUASA general secretary Louis Kakinda said.

Earlier, the university Council chairperson Charles Wana Etyem maintained that the university does not have money promising they would pay the lecturers when the money is available.

The students are therefore protesting against the romoured closure of the university following unending strikes at the institution and want class resumed as soon as possible.
