The incarcerated Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere has applied for bail before Jinja High Court, saying he is of advanced age and sickness.

The troubled king wants to be released on bail pending his trial on various capital offences he is facing in relation to recent Kasese killings.

Through his lawyers from Alaka and Ochieng Company Advocates, the traditional leader says it is also his constitutional right to apply for and be granted bail, adding that he will not interfere with investigations.

He also says he has a fixed place of residence located at Muyenga Cell, Nyakabingo II in Kasese and in Makindye Division-Kampala, plus substantial sureties who will undertake to bring him back as and when he is required in court.

Earlier this week, Mumbere alongside his 150 royal guards appeared before Jinja magistrates’ court and were charged with various charges including murder, attempted murder, terrorism, and aggravated robbery.

Mumbere who is currently at Luzira prison is expected to return to court on December 28, 2016.
