It comes a day after it emerged that some FDC officials were plotting to oust Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the leader of the opposition in parliament.

Gen Mugisha Muntu said that he is the only one with the mandate to decide whether Nandala is demoted or retained as leader of the opposition in parliament in consultations with the party organs.

Muntu further said that there is no need for agitation amongst party members since it is a necessary Parliamentary procedure that there is a review of the leadership after every two and a half years.

He says any party official speaking about Nandala’s exit is doing so as an individual adding that, as the party President he has not yet made his decision known until the right time comes.

The media has been rife with reports that Nandala is bound to lose his seat as leader of opposition. Alice Alaso, the incumbent FDC Secretary General and Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP are to be top contenders for the post.

Some National Executive committee members have also been open about plans to appoint Nandala as the shadow finance minister to replace Geofrey Ekanya.

Muntu’s warning comes just a day before the much awaited NEC meeting this Wednesday to discuss among others the party’s parliamentary leadership as dictated by the Parliament rules and change of leadership of the four oversight committees since FDC controls the largest opposition in Parliament.

However, top on many party members’ minds will be the elder’s report providing an outcome of the committee on the 2-5 year Presidential tenure. Early this year, FDC set up a truth and reconciliation committee followed by a petition by Retired Major Rubaramira Ruranga on behalf of Nandala led by city lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuzi to review the polls and make recommendations. Recommendation number four, which recommended fresh elections has raised tension within the party members.
