No Children Were Harmed In Rwenzururu Palace Raid – Gen. Odongo
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Minister for Internal affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo has said no children were killed or harmed in the attack of Rwenzururu palace that happened on 27th November, 2016.
While appearing before the parliamentary committee investigating the unrest in Kasese district, Gen. Odong said the attack was timely and targeted only armed militia not innocent people.
“We did not see any children. That’s why we have never mentioned them in any of the reports we released.”
The committee on defense and internal affairs met the Internal Affairs and Security ministers, the Chief of Defense Forces and other senior police officers on Thursday.
The Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa however intimated to journalists that the officials are contradicting each other over the number of people who died in the clashes.
“They are only contradicting each other; Hon Kiyonga talked of over 250, the director of military intelligence talked of 64, the minister is saying 104.” Munyagwa wondered.
However it is still unbelievable to many on how children could escape the gunfire that even the old people who died couldn’t escape.
The clashes left over 100 people dead, others injured and more others arrested including the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere.
He is now facing murder charges as police prepare fresh charges against him.
