The money was a pledge made by President Yoweri Museveni to 65 party loyalists from Lango sub region who visited him on April 2nd at State house Entebbe.

The group would collectively share shs 200 million and distribute shs 120 million to the 1,920 village saving groups in Lira.

This, according to the president, would enable them set up income generating activities.

The money was delivered in Lira district last week, Friday by Lucy Nakyobe, the state house comptroller.

Betty Engola, the wife of minister of state for housing Sam Engola was tasked to oversee the distribution of the Shs 200million to the  65 beneficiaries while Linda Auma, the Lira district NRM youth chairperson was tasked to distribute the Shs 192 million to the selected Village Saving Groups.

But a section of NRM stalwarts are protesting circumstances under which the money was distributed, claiming their names had been erased from the list of beneficiaries.

Last evening the group stormed the office of Lira Resident District Commissioner, George Odongo and asked him to investigate how the presidential donation was managed. Jacob Ocen, the acting NRM district chairperson claimed majority of the genuine people on the first list never received the money.

Similarly, Bosco Odongo, the Central Division NRM youth chairperson cited lack of transparency in the manner which the money was distributed.

Odongo says their petition is seeks to establish whether all the 65 beneficiaries received the money due to them, and whether all recipients were genuine.

But Sam Engola, the chairperson NRM party for Northern Uganda claimed the money was only meant for 65 supporters who attended the meeting at State House.

RDC George Odongo has called for the production of a list of beneficiaries for verification.

This is the second time NRM party cadres in Lira district are engaging in disputes over presidential donations. In 2014, the same group fought over iron sheets that were given to a section of supporters in the district.
