National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential flag bearer aspirants will have to cough Shs10million to secure their nomination, the Party Electoral Commission announced today morning at the party head quarters in Kyadondo.
Those aspiring to become party National Chairman will also pay Shs10million.
Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has declared interest to contest for the two positions.
Incumbent President Museveni who is the party chairman is also expected to contest for the two top party positions.
Aspirant National Party Vice chairperson, a position reserved for female NRM members will pay 5 million while National Vice chairperson Aspirants for the 6 regions will pay 2.5 million.
The fee decreases successively up to the lowest position of Local Council One (LC 1) aspirants who will cough Shs10,000
The party has opened a bank account with Centenary Bank A/C no.2910500001 under National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission where the money will be deposited.
NRM Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi said that the fee was approved by Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s highest decision making body on 6th July 2015.
Tanga justified the fee as “a sense instilling commitment and responsibility in NRM aspirants.”
The fee will also facilitate verification of aspirants’ documents, documentation and management of the exercise for expression of interest by aspirant, facilitate coordination of nomination, facilitate election petitions, voter education, and formal meeting sessions with aspirants, transactions of tribunal on election matters activities at district and sub county level.
He also said that NRM has created conflict resolutions committee to arbitrate electoral disputes arising from party primaries.
Picking of nomination forms will start on July 14, 2015 for MPs, LC5, Lord Mayor, President and National Chairperson, and Elections will begin July 20,15 with special interest groups.
