Rwenzururu King Charles Mumbere Remanded To Luzira Prison

The troubled Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere has been remanded to Luzira Maximum prison until December 28, 2016.

The Omusinga was this morning appearing before Jinja magistrates’ court to hear to murder charges against him.

Court has also slapped 11 more charges including terrorism, murder, and attempted murder among others in relation to Kasese clashes.

However, his lawyer Caleb Alaka has tried his best to plead for bail but court remained adamant.

“The King’s health is fragile, deserves bail to get specialized treatment, he suffers from hypertension and diabetes,” Alaka said.

He also requested that the king should have special meals and access to his family and relatives.

Meanwhile, the court has granted Mumbere access to his lawyer, a small fridge, next of kin visits, personal cook, medical doctor and time to talk to his lawyer.

It’s worth noting that Mumbere was arrested at the end of November from his palace following the clashes between the royal guards and UPDF/ Police

He was accused of being the mastermind of the clashes that left over 100 people dead and 137 were arrested.
