Uganda Cranes first choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango has said he is determined to take the mantle to command the team from the back when they face Togo this afternoon in a 2015 Afcon qualifier in Lome.
Speaking to our reporter after training at the Stade De Kutgue Stadium in Lome yesterday, Onyango said in the absence of skipper Andrew Mwesigwa who is suspended because of accumulating two yellow cards, he will need to summon his leadership qualities to organise the defenders and also direct them.
Onyango maintained that although he conceded one goal in Kampala last weekend in the loss to Togo, he is not scared of facing the Togo team on their home stadium. The South African based goalkeeper said he has enough experience to face such battles.
Besides working hard to try and get a positive result against Togo, the Cranes will have to be very cautious as four players are one card away from suspension for the home game against Ghana next month.
Striker Geoffrey Massa, Dennis Iguma, Khalid Aucho and Godfrey Walusimbi are all in danger of missing the next match.
The Cranes are second in Group E with four points behind the Black Stars of Ghana who have five points. Ghana will host third placed Guinea today in the town of Tamale.
