Oulanyah finally Gets Divorce
By Serestino Tusingwire
The High Court Family Division on Monday October 3 granted the termination of the marriage between Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah and his estranged wife Winnie Amoo Oulanya.
This was after both Oulanya and Amoo agreed before Justice Alexandria Rugardya Nkonge that their three-year-old marriage could not go any longer and asked for divorce.
Justice Nkonge declared, in his judgment read by the court’s deputy registrar Justine Atukwansa, that the couple’s marriage was over, but the custody of their two children was placed under the mother.
Oulanyah will be having access to the children upon a prior notice to visit them.
Oulanyah is also to pay a monthly maintenance fee of $690 to help provide care for the young ones now living with their mother in the US.
The Judge trimmed this fee from $4500 which Amoo had asked for, because she failed to prove the cost of her house in San Diego and didn’t attach any school fees pay slips proving
amounts paid by the children at schools.
Oulanyah petitioned court last year seeking divorce with Amoo, accusing her of abandoning their Ugandan marital home for USA and denying him his conjugal rights; a move that he said has made him spend huge sums of money running two homes.
Oulanyah had also accused his ‘ex-wife’ of cruelty and causing him emotional distress.
In response to his petition, Amoo denied subjecting her husband to severe cruelty but instead accused him of mistreating her, saying at one time, Oulanyah forced her to wear a linen that belonged to his late wife.
She also accused her husband of living an adulterous lifestyle and sleeping with their then housemaid, Jennifer Amoding.
