Over 10 People Feared Dead in Kasese over Gunfire

Ten people including two police officers are confirmed dead following a scuffle between the royal guards and military personnel in Kasese district today (Saturday) morning.

The OC CID and OC station of Maliba Police station have been killed in gun fire with Rwenzururu Kingdom royal guards that left eight of them also dead.

This happened during a joint operation by the police and the UPDF soldiers aimed at disarming royal guards attached to the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu.

“We conducted a joint operation with the police in Kasese in order to recover all the illegal fire arms in the hands of the royal guards including the knives and spears.” The 305 UPDF brigade spokesperson Lt Amos Nsamba said.


Currently, the situation in Kasese town is tense, shops closed, as traders fear gun shots.

“We were so scared when we heard the gunshots then we saw the UPDF and Police patrolling the town we closed our shops and went back to our homes,” Musinguzi Moses a trader in Kasese main market said.

The Rwenzori region is one of the insure regions in the country with many civilians suspected to be in possession of  illegal guns which they use to kill others.
