Self-proclaimed ‘Pastor’ William Muwanguzi aka Kiwedde is this afternoon appearing before Rakai Magistrates court after being nabbed in Zimbabwe by Interpol Uganda with the help its counterparts in Zimbabwe.

Kiwedde was arrested on 29th October after being found with fake passport and other travel documents by Zimbabwe police.

AIGP Asan Kasingye, the director Interpol Uganda said that Kiwedde has been living as a fugitive in Zimbabwe, but through corroboration with their counterparts they were able to arrest him and repatriate him back to Uganda.

Kasingye said Kiwedde must face charges of escaping from lawful custody, which perhaps will be read to him this afternoon.

Kiwedde escaped from Mutukula prison in Rakai District last year where he was held after being found guilty of impersonation.

Prosecution alleged that, posing as a Catholic priest from Kenya, Muwanguzi who called himself Paul Mwamba organized an unauthorized Charismatic Prayer Service at Nabisere Hotel in Kalisizo Town Council with intent to extort money from unsuspecting residents.

He further claimed he would heal ailments like Cancer, Epilepsy, and HIV/AIDs during the service.

He added that he would also cure blindness and make those who are barren fertile.

However, catholic Priests from Matale Parish tipped off police which arrested him along with his colleague Julius Mukasa and later produced him to court. He was later remanded until 26th November 2013.

In 2014 Pastor William Muwanguzi, tried twice to escape from prison, but later succeeded and went to Zimbabwe through Tanzania
