President Museveni yesterday afternoon officially opened a new and well refurbished Gulu Main market.
The modern artistic market has 474 shops, 1040 stalls and it can accommodate over 4500 business people.
The market is expected to create direct employment to approximately 4600 people and create indirect employment to thousands more
Recently, The Government of Uganda received a loan from the African Development Fund (ADF) in the amount of UA 38.0 million towards the cost of the MARKETS AND AGRICULTURAL TRADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME– PROJECT 1 (MATIP-1), and applied part of the proceeds of the loan to cover eligible payments under the contracts for the construction of Seven (7) Urban Markets.
The Markets include; Lira Central Market, Jinja Central Market, Mbale Main Market, Wandegeya Market Kampala, Hoima Central Market, Gulu Main Market and Mpanga Main Market.
