Pictures: How People Celebrated The World No Pants Day

No Pants Day is an event celebrated on two different occasions per year, one held in January and the other on first Friday of May each year.

The origin goes back to 10 January 1986, when a New York City resident forgot accidentally to wear his pants and boarded a New York subway pantless.

He was embarrassed, but at the same time was thrilled with the grins and giggles wherever he went.

The following year, he was joined by tens of other pantless friends and this has snowballed into an international event held on January and May of each year.

No Pants Day also known as No Pants Subway Ride, is an annual event in which transit passengers ride trains without wearing pants in January.

It is organized by Improv Everywhere and observed in dozens of cities worldwide

In the UK, where the word pants refers to underwear, the event has been translated as “No Trousers Day”. For 2013, sixty cities had coordinators.

The first No Pants Subway Ride began with seven riders in 2002 in New York City. In 2006, 150 riders in New York City participated, where eight were handcuffed for disorderly conduct, but in court the charges were dismissed.
