Police Officer On The Run For Defilement

Police in Rakai is searching for one of its own, The Officer-in-Charge of Bulanga Police Post, Rakai district, who is accused of defiling and impregnating a 15-year old girl.

Justus Twinomugisha, accused of defilement

Corporal Twinomugisha Justus (45) escaped arrest this morning when plain clothed-detectives raided his home in Bulanga village.

In a dramatic twist of events, Twinomugisha fled just few minutes before police officers arrived at his home. Authorities now suspect that his colleagues in the force tipped him off.

Twinomugisha has been on police’s wanted list since last week and he remained at large and his whereabouts unknown. He however showed up over the weekend.

It is alleged that the cop committed the offence in July this year when he raped a student of Bright Hope Vocational school in Bulanga town.

The Victim claims in a statement recorded at Rakai Police station that Twinomugisha found her in the school kitchen on the fateful evening, put her on gun-point and later raped her.

Her relatives sought medical attention after noticing that she was unusually weak. Its then that they established that she was pregnant, after which she disclosed that the pregnancy was a result of the rape.

Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Region Police spokesperson confirms the matter and adds that although he is on the run, Twinomugisha has already admitted to the accusations and responsibility for the pregnancy.

Serunjogi further adds that the accused officer has absconded from duty for over a week, the period that police has spent searching for him.

He condemns that act adding that this is a personal responsibility and not that of the entire police force.
