Police picks interest in activities of climate activist turned gay Morris Nyombi
The Ugandan authorities, in particular police, have picked interest in the activities of Nyombi Morris, a well-known climate activist after he was recently exposed as a gay.
In a twist of events, Morris, who has been a prominent figure in environmental advocacy, appears to have transitioned into a new phase of activism, a month after making headlines on his personal life with his long term partner Hamzah.
Snoops have intimated to us that for the past week, Morris has been residing in Mubende District in company of other LGBTQ+ activists who number about five.
According to insiders, Morris’s retreat to Mubende was intended to be a private affair, focusing on both personal and activist endeavors. However, tensions reportedly arose within the group.
Misunderstandings among the activists led to one individual disclosing details of their location and activities to the public. This leak has stirred considerable interest and curiosity about Morris’s activities and the nature of his engagement with the LGBTQ+ community.
It is these new developments which have raised eyebrows and prompted speculation including police.
We are told police have since picked interest in the matter with Morris as a person of interest.
Sources say police is still making further investigations and is in consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) before they can swing into action and have Morris arrested and formally charged in line with the recently passed Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 which prohibits and penalises homosexual behaviour and related practices in Uganda.
It stipulates capital punishment for “serial offenders” against the law. It also decrees a 20-year sentence for “promoting” homosexuality, a fate that Morris faces when he is apprehended and convicted.
The shift from climate activism to a more explicitly LGBTQ+ focus marks a significant transition for Morris.
The recent media exposure of his gay links has not only drawn attention to his personal life but also highlighted the broader intersection of personal identity and climate activism.
As this story develops, the public will likely continue to scrutinize both Morris’s professional and personal choices.
