Jinja
All is set in Buwenge Town Council in Jinja District for the official launch of campaigns of NUP President and presidential candidate in the 2026 general elections Hon Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi on Monday 29th September, 2025.
Like in football matches where the one side takes advantage of every blind pass, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP)has vowed to use all the weaknesses of the ruling party NRM to convince and persuade Ugandans to vote out the incumbent and bring about an overhaul in Uganda’s leadership in 2031.
The NUP Coordinator for Busoga sub region, Moses Molson Bizitu says they have mapped out a number of loopholes and gaps characterized by unfulfilled pledges, disgruntled leaders and individuals as well as communities who are now yearning for true change.
Bizitu justifies their choice of Busoga as a strategic sub region where NUP has been gaining traction saying the campaign launch will strengthen the party structures and reignite political momentum.
He claims a number of individuals who suffered fighting and promoting NRM party over years have been sidelined, neglected and abandoned to suffer in despair because the NRM only cares about a few individuals and groups.
Bizitu who served as Speaker Jinja Municipal Council from 2016-2021 cites Busoga as one of the sub regions whose residents are fed up with President Yoweri Museveni and his NRM over endless empty promises.
He says Busoga has for years become synonymous with poverty only second to the semi-arid volatile Karamoja due to low and fluctuating sugarcane prices, torture by security personnel on Lake Victoria and River Nile, poor state of infrastructure in schools and health as well as roads that are in sorry states.
The bearded and very talkative mid-age who was ushered and mentored into politics by former DP firebrand politician Hajji Mohammed Beswari Kezaala now serving under NRM as the Deputy Mission in Qatar has no kind words for NRM for neglecting Jinja City.
“…Jinja City has some of the biggest taxpayers(investors) feeding the national coffers with billions of shillings while employing hundreds of residents but the roads leading their industries and factories are pathetic…”, he laments.
He says it’s inexcusable for President Museveni to tell residents and leaders of Jinja City that the government does not have enough money yet his Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)are always squeezing these investors to the marrow.
The NUP honcho does not mince words branding the NRM party a tired, corrupt and fast fading organization whose leaders are only out to swindle, embezzle and steal taxpayers’ money at will.
To bite even more deeper, Bizitu claims that a clique of shrewd officials and politicians always collude to block people from accessing the President to handle their issues.
“…because they do not want others who could even be smarter than them professionally to reach out to the president for fear of being replaced and out of jealousy…”, Bizitu who does not support Museveni alleges.
He also describes Busoga as an ‘orphan region’ with no serious voice at the political high table of this country after the ejection of First deputy Prime Minister/EAC Affairs Minister Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga from the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) in August.
Bobi Wine plans to pass through the congested jinja City centre to greet and charge his supporters before proceeding to Buwenge through the equally busy Jinja-Kamuli road.
This is likely to cause confrontation with the Uganda Police Force (UPF) which has a history of clashing with the NUP leader. Security analysts say given the numerous previous clashes between Bobi Wine’s supporters and the police, its likely that the planned passage through the city centre will not be allowed.
Security analysts are concerned that potential confrontations could have far-reaching consequences for various segments of society.
Vulnerable groups including school children whose education might be disrupted, mothers seeking medical care and the disabled and elderly may struggle to navigate through the chaotic situations. The business community whose operations and livelihood could be impacted by disruptions and potential violence.
Given the history, its possible that the police, backed by the military might guide his convoy through a specific road particularly through Budondo in Northern Division up to Namulesa Trading Centre where they will join the Jinja-Kamuli road.
