Rwomushana Released, Put under House Arrest

Police has released former Political Intelligence Unit boss Charles Rwomushana but put him under house arrest.

Rwomushana was arrested on Friday last week after an invitation to Special Investigations Division, Kireka to assist in providing information in respect to a photo he posted on Facebook purported to be Aine’s dead body, the missing Amama Mbabazi head of security.

His arrest was after the questioning and detaining of The Red Pepper Chief Editor Ben Byarabaha and Dickson Mubiru, Kamunye managing editor who had been summoned over the same issue.

The two secured police bond on Friday night.

The picture which dominated social media debates on Thursday, last week forced Aine’s relatives and police to swing into action.

The relatives stormed Central Police Station, Kampala demanding information about Aine’s whereabouts.

They also checked Mulago mortuary in a bid to confirm if he is dead while police started investigations into the matter.

Police yesterday said friends and lawyers were accessed to Rwomushana at the Special Investigations Division, Kireka.

Police deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye said lawyers led by Andrew Karamagi were allowed to see Rwomushana at 5:00pm at Special Investigations Division, Kireka.

Peter Kibazo, a seasoned radio journalist posted on social media photos of police at Rwomushana’s home hours ago.
