Saints Slump To Artland Defeat

The Saints suffered their second home defeat of the season, falling to 1-2 to Artland Katale in the FUFA Big League on Saturday at Namboole.

Saints full-back Julius Madepi

Artland who had not won in three matches were quick off the blocks and pinned the Saints in their half from the opening whistle forcing  keeper Mustafa Kasule to make a series of saves.

The Saints were uncharacteristically off color and it took them ages to get into the game. And when they got their chance midway in the first half, Alex Kitata faced the keeper but unleashed a mosquito kick that Artland Keeper Hosea Sewanyana calmly collected.

The first half was a tale of wastefulness. Artland could have gotten four goals and Saints, despite being out of sorts, had three chances on goal, all fluffed.

In the Second half the Namboole crowd excepted the Saints to raise the tempo but it was Artland who showed more hunger and they took the lead when the Saints defenders couldn’t clear their lines. The visitors got their second of the day when they counter attacked from the a Saints free kick and Saints right Back Julius Madepi couldn’t clear the danger.

The Saints then got a penalty when Alex Kitata was brought down in the area but Farook Kawooya hits his effort against the post.

The Saints now 0-2 down, found some fire and Kawooya beat the entire defense and Kitata slotted home to make it 1-2 with 15 minutes to go.

The Saints probed again and Kitata headed over the bar, Kawooya blasted just wide and Geoffrey Buni shot over the bar.
