Not even a late red card to Muzamir Mutyaba could keep coach Morley Byekwaso’s team from victory against the Zanzibar team.

Two converted penalties in the last five minutes before the interval were enough to give SC Victoria University a comfortable lead.

Mutyaba and Jackson Kibirige netted the penalties. With five minutes to full time, defender Rashid Jumaine handled in the box and the Ethiopian referee Belay Tadesse made no mistake in awarding a penalty.

Later at the stroke of half time, Muwadda Mawejje, who made it to the starting line-up this time, rounded two defenders before he was brought down in the box for another penalty.

Five minutes after the interval SC Victoria University netted the third goal from open play with a well struck Kibirige thunderbolt that beat the goalkeeper Abdallah Mwalimu.

Byekwaso told AfricanFootball.com that he was happy with the win and the fact that they scored three goals. The coach said it was unfortunate to loose Mutyaba ahead of the quarterfinal match.

The last Group A match between Sudanese League champions El Merreikh and South Sudan’s Malakia FC was scheduled to take place later.

The winner of the final that climaxes on June 4th will take home US$30,000, while the runner-up will bag US$20,000 and the third placed US$10,000.
