Luwandagga, the long serving head of the sports and current affairs department at UBC passed on today at his home in Namasuba. Aged 61, Andrew Patrick Luwandagga succumbed to heart failure.

“Luwandagga leaves a legacy of a passionate and energetic sports analyst, one who inspired several young people to join the broadcast industry,” Tonny Owana, the head of political affairs production eulogized Luwandagga during an interview with local news agency Uganda Radio Network.

Meanwhile, the fallen veteran sports journalist’s son who was arrested on Saturday in connection to the death of his father has been released and cleared of the murder by police.

William Andrew Luwandagga, 30, was arrested and held at Katwe Police Station as police made further inquiries into Luwandagga’s abrupt death.

The arrest of William followed statements by the neighbours indicating that he and his younger brother had been fighting the night before and that the intervention of their father could have resulted in his death. However, emerging reports indicate that Luwandagga died of natural causes (heart failure).

On Saturday Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said the postmortem report will be the determining factor on whether there was foul play in the death of Luwandagga.

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential candidate also joined those mourning Andrew’s death.

“My heart and thoughts are together with many others in grieving for Andrew Luwandaga. Condolences to family, relatives & friends. MAGRIP,” Besigye tweeted.
