Traders Stranded As KCCA Closes Haruna Towers In Ntinda

Business owners in the Haruna Towers in Ntinda, a city suburb are counting their losses for a week after the building was closed for lack of approved plan.

This is the second time this building is being closed by KCCA after the owner of the building is found guilty of erecting the structure without permission.

City businessman and owner Haruna Sentongo was asked to pay Shs8 million as a fine which he did promptly.

“… the authority accuses the developer of two counts of building without permission contrary to section 33/1 & 2 of the Physical Planning Act and Regulation 2(1) & (4) of the town and country planning regulations,” KCCA criminal charge sheets read in part.

The building was reportedly constructed in six weeks.

“It’s unbelievable that this building has been constructed in six weeks,” KCCA deputy director litigation services, Mr Charles Ouma said then.

He added that the fate of the tower will be determined by the Physical Planning Committee this week.

Many people who live in the Ntinda area view bling bling tower as a death trap.
