Two toddlers died on Wednesday in Jinja district after a hospital denied their parents access due to an impending visit by Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament to the medical facility.
The couple from Buzaaya County in Kamuli district is accusing health personnel at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital of negligence which resulted into the death of two of their children.
Peter Magona and Monica Wakuboneire had been referred from Kamuli Hospital after having premature triplets. However, they told local news agency, Uganda Radio Network that health workers at Jinja Hospital denied them access to the ward claiming that they would make it dirty ahead of a visit by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
Kadaga visited the hospital on Tuesday to launch the Preterm Births initiative study-(PTBi) in Busoga sub region.
