Uganda, Kenya Agree On Joint Ministerial Commission

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Hon Sam Kutesa and his counterpart Amb. Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya.

Uganda and Kenya have agreed to establish a Joint Ministerial Permanent Commission (JPC) which is a permanent and regular forum where the two countries meet at the highest level.

Presiding over the ceremony in Munyonyo, Kampala on Thursday were the Uganda Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Sam Kutesa and his counterpart Amb. Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya.

The JPC is a legal framework to deepen expanding consultations and the existing cordial bilateral cooperation and exchanges between Uganda and Kenya and encourage intensive dialogue, exchanges and implementation of cooperative activities as well as strengthening institutional relationships pursuant to this agreement.

It will provide a conducive environment for the two countries to explore areas of cooperation of mutual interest including trade and investment, Immigration and Customs, Energy and Natural Resources Development, Defense, Health Services, Standards and Quality Assurance, Water and Lands, Development of Physical Infrastructure, Tourism and Culture, Peace and Security on both sides of the border, Education and Sports.

Further instruments, projects and programmes shall be concluded and/or established to effect efficiently mutual cooperation between the parties. Meetings will be held alternatively on a bi annual basis in the capitals of the two countries; and sub-committees shall be established to implement this agreement and any other instruments and outcomes of projects and programmes.
