A 12-year-old girl who was kidnapped and held for two weeks has been rescued in Lwengo district. The primary four pupil (names withheld) was kidnapped from her father’s house on May 26th and not seen again until she was discovered on Monday.

The St. Joseph’s Bright Junior School pupil hails from Busubi village, Kissekka Sub-county Lwengo district.

According to her father Moses Ssempeebwa, his daughter went missing from the family home on Sunday, May 26. He had left the girl in the care of her step mother and three other siblings. He was only informed three days after she went missing that her whereabouts were unknown.

The desperate Ssempeebwa looked for the girl amongst all his relatives in vain. He was at the point of giving up when his eight year old son told him that he had seen the girl in conversation with one 24-year-old Peter Kizza shortly before she went missing.

Ssempeebwa then went to Kizza’s home in Kyakonyomozi village, Kisseka Sub County, Lwengo, where he first spotted a dress his daughter often wore hanging on a line.

He then called his daughter’s name and she emerged accompanied by Kiiza’s mother Joan Namande.

Once under police protection, the girl informed the villagers how Kizza had lured her away from her home with promises of buying her a mobile phone. He tricked her into going with him but once at his house, with the help of his mother, kept her captive.

The girl claims that Kiiza had repeated forceful sex with her at the urging of his mother who even instructed him on how they would keep the girl in bondage.

Kizza Peter and his mother Joan Namande, have been arrested and are held at Kinoni Police Station in Lwengo district pending investigations.

Kizza admits that he was helped by his mother in keeping the girl confined. He, however, denies that his intention was to rape the minor. He says he wants to marry her.

Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Regional Police spokesperson, confirms their arrest and says investigations and medical examination of the victim are going ahead.

Sserunjogi says once investigations are completed, the mother and son will likely face charges of kidnap, unlawful confinement of a minor, defilement and rape.
