Ugandans Netted In UK Over £4M
A family of Ugandan ‘nkuba-kyeyo‘ in the UK stole at least £4 million from taxpayers in a 20-year scam.
The mastermind, Ruth Nabuguzi, 49, created fake identities for up to 100 children to milk the benefit system and also claimed to suffer from HIV and require costly drugs – but in reality sent them back home to be sold for huge profits costing the UK taxpayer more than £2 million.
During their six-week trial, a jury heard how the group ‘conspired together to create, use and exploit’ false identities in order to carry out the staggering fraud.
Prosecutor Paul Raudnitz said: ‘The tentacles of this fraud went far and wide for many, many years. Each defendant at different times joined the conspiracy.’
Nabuguzi left for the UK in 1991 and claimed asylum for herself and four children she had left here.
Three years later, she used the name Jane Namusisi to apply for asylum again – along with two more children. In 1999 – using the name Pauline Zalwango – she applied once more, this time with three children.
She is believed to have regularly travelled back home and bought at least three properties in and around the capital Kampala.
Dennis Kyeyune, 29, is thought to be Nabuguzi’s son or nephew. Other members of the gang include Jordan Sebutemba, 26, thought to be Nabuguzi’s daughter or niece; Albert Kaidi, a former partner of Sebutemba who is believed to be from Rwanda; and Lamulah Sekiziyuvu, 36, a former partner of both Keyuyne and Kaidi.
Kyeyune, Sebutemba, Kaidi and Sekiziyuvu were found guilty of various fraud offences yesterday.
They will be sentenced along with Nabuguzi and Betty Tibakawa, 21, Lina Katongole, 29, Mathy Matumba, 50, and Eddie Carlos Semcenda, 30, next week.

Utter greed and absolute lack of respect, integrity and self esteem. Why wouldn’t they just go to work? I hope they get more than they deserve in prison while they come after their assets and then straight on the plane back to Uganda. While there are lots of people suffering in Uganda and else where these people don’t understand the meaning of opportunity. No wonder they are kin on not letting them in. These individuals ruin the chances of the hard working, genuine and law abiding people.
That is NOT stealing but recovering what the Britons stole from us for over a century. Congratulations.
These are the guys who have spoil t Uganda’s name almost everywhere in the world, they should face justice and if found guilty, life imprisonment or death,go to Kenya, Rwanda,S.Sudan almost everywhere

The britishe are the master thieves,so for a poor Ugandan to bring back the little among the huge sums which the whites took is a peanut.
I think I did study the same history as Grace, Ivan and the lot. It would be smart if you showed a little bit of intellect. You can live in the third world but have your brain and world live in the first world. That’s why how ever much the Jews hate Hitler, they are smart and intelligent enough not to kill Germans. But why would I get 4 million pounds and remain in UK, that’s enough capital for one to live back home.
Gov’t should create a conducive environment to end Ugandans’ desperate lives to avoid such occurrences.

This shows that in Uganda, being a thief is commendable. Let them rot in U.K. prisons for their obtaining money by false pretence.
Greed is the word! Why didn’t they stop after 10 years! All the same I feel sorry for Nabuguzi as she’s a very nice lady, as we speak she’s been in prison for a year!

This story about a little group of Ugandans who created 100 fake identities and robbed the U.K government reminds me of someone who created several identities on facebook and other email providers and used them to stalk my sister (BBA maureen namatovu) over a 5 year period. But as happened in this case, every impostor eventually gets caught just like I managed to crack down the identity of this stalker. Maybe I should also reveal their true identity…
I think, these are the few Ugandans already caught. Many are doing the same (Stealing US Dollars) from the USA. They have quite a group that is connected to USA gangs and just live within Ug and daily watch and monitor their victims. The ones am talking about use Bank accounts (including credit cards) of individuals they are sure are in Uganda and they can monitor on daily basis through internet and phone. I am one such victim of these type of Ugandan ‘Baferre’. Somebody needs to come to rescue for me in Lugooba, where neighborhood has been turned into points of ‘Kufera’. Individuals no longer work but just think of stealing neighbors. This is the Uganda which has been manufactured in Lugooba where I stay.
Ugandans (we) have embraced a generation of moral decay inspired by example from those in power. If you follow the popular Bukedde presentation “Agataliiko nfuufu”, you will realise that Ugandans will do anything to elevate themselves above others, even those we already know as better-off (for example).

In addition to the Global fund, CHOGUM, etc, Taxpayers’ money has been diverted into funding political gains; e.g the last presidential & parliamentary elections, etc which saw Ugandans enduring inflation just after the elections at the expense of public services i.e education/teachers’, health/ staff’s salaries.
Whom should we blame? I think all of us are to blame for the ethical values gone ‘AWOL’.
As we sing the current slogan: “abantu bakoowu” while taking the law in our own hands, let us learn to resent those in power who rip us up by voting wisely. This will send a message to those we replace them with, that they too ain’t immune.
Once we collectively start to react affirmatively to the injustice across the board, we can realise a u-turn in the morals of this generation emulated through our young generation to the next.
