Uganda’s Opponent Equatorial Guinea Disqualified From Afcon, Mauritania Reinstated

Uganda Cranes will face new opposition on July 19 after Equatorial Guinea being tossed out of the 2015 Nations Cup qualification after it was revealed they fielded an ineligible player in 1st round play off of 17th May 2014 played in Nouakchott.

The two were meant face off in the first leg of the final preliminary round of the 2015 Nations Cup qualification on 19 July in Kampala having won their respective second round ties against Madagascar and Mauritania respectively.

The match has been declared to be forfeited in a decision reached 3rd July 2014 after Mauritania protested fielding of Thierry Fidieu Tazemeta in 1st round play off played in Nouakchott meaning that Equatorial Guinea will not proceed and consequently, Mauritania is qualified to next playoff round of AFCON 2015 & national team of Equatorial Guinea is deemed to be “eliminated,” part of a statement from AFCON Organising Committee on Thursday evening.

EGEquatorial Guinea has a long history of being disqualified on cases of fielding illegible players.

Striker Thierry Fidieu Tazemeta who plays his club football in Thailand for Singhtarua FC is a naturalized Equatoguinean football striker born 13 October 1982 in Mbouda, Cameroun but the they didn’t provide evidence Tazemeta was eligible to represent them or complied with FIFA Statutes on change of association.

Mauritania now proceed to engage Uganda in final playoff round with 1st leg on 19 July in Kampala and the winner over the two legs will join Ghana, Togo and Guinea in Group E of qualification to Morocco next year.

Serbian coach Milutin Sredjovic’s Cranes troops pipped the Mauritania National team, 3-0 in a friendly match played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Thursday 2 January 2014, their most recent meeting.

The teams were using the friendly to test their CHAN 2014 squads though both never made it out of the group stages.
