Darius Mugoye, FUFA second vice president, passes on

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and the Ugandan football community are grieving the loss of the second vice president, Darius Mugoye.

Mugoye passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, morning at Mengo Hospital, FUFA has confirmed.
Mugoye, known for his dedicated service and invaluable contributions to FUFA and the broader football landscape, also served the game under the reign of Lawrence Mulindwa.
The football governing body has released burial arrangements for the deceased.
A vigil will be held at the FUFA Complex at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8th; the church service will be held at Namirembe Cathedral at 7 a.m.; public viewing at Nabweru playground at 10 a.m.; body departure to Rubanga, Sheema district, at 2 p.m.; and a vigil at his country home in Rubanga, Sheema, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November
Burial will take place on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, at his ancestral home in Rubanga, Sheema district, at 12 p.m.
Mugoye this year was outstanding as East Africa won the AFCON 2027 hosting bid, having been selected earlier on by the Federation on an eight-man committee to oversee the Pamoja bid.

Mugoye served as the proprietor of the lower division side, St. Mary’s New Hope FC, that competes in the lower division, a team that is affiliated with St. Mary’s SS in Nabweru, where he was the director.
Several people have sent condolences to FUFA and the deceased’s family.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Anne Among Magogo, said, “We are deeply saddened by the news of the demise of our brother Darius Mugoye, the FUFA’s second vice president.”Darius was a very reliable, committed, and trustworthy friend who we shall dearly miss! He made tremendous contributions to the sports and education sectors and left a huge gap. My sympathies go to his family, friends, his FUFA family, and the sports fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
