Golfers Pay tribute to deceased former Governor Emmanuel Mutebile

Golfers have paid tribute to the deceased former Governor of Bank of Uganda, Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Mutebile who passed away on 23rd January 2022 was an active member and patron of Kabale Sports Club.

Over the weekend, golfers from different parts of Uganda and neighbouring Rwanda participated in the Professor Mutebile Memorial Golf tournament organized by the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation at Kabale golf Course sponsored by Kigezi Highland Tea Company sponsored the tournament in partnership with the Bank of Uganda. Where 0ver 80 golfers from different parts of Uganda and neighbouring Rwanda .

William Osire  an office  attendant  at Bank of Uganda in the Governor’s office  and Laura Atukunda  on Saturday emerged the  winners as the overall winners  at the 2nd memorial  of the Late  Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Golf Open played at Kabale Golf Course.

William Osire from Namulonge Golf Club   was the overall winner for men with Handicap 36 and  41 points While Laura Atukunda from Mbarara Golf Club   won the ladies category with handicap 48 with  37 points .

Caroline Karungi handicap 21 from Mbarara golf Club won the ladies group A with 32 points, Faith Namara handicap 17   from Mbarara won the ladies group B with 37 points.

In men mark Muhumza handicap 8 from Kabale  Golf Club won group A men with 34 points , David Barungi from Kabale sports club handicap 15 won the mens group B with 36 points and Herbert Rukundo handicap 25 from Kabale  sports club  won group C with 37 Points

Robert Bugabo of Kabale sports club said that the late Mutebile sponsored a tournament every 27th of January during his birthday. He also sponsored the youth for different tournaments and contributed to the expansion of the Kabale golf course. He planned to construct a new clubhouse.

Bugabo said that the first anniversary of the Professor Mutebile Memorial golf tournament registered an impressive turn up as compared to other tournaments.

The awards ceremony and dinner was held at the White Horse Inn Kabale. The Kabale Sports Club leaders led by the club captain Ali Karama appealed to stakeholders, especially Bank of Uganda to help them in completing some of projects the late Mutebile had planned.

Richard Byarugaba Executive Director Finance at Bank of Uganda who represented the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Michael Atingi-Ego applauded the initiative of Kigezi Highland Tea Company for sponsoring the tournament in memorial. Bank of Uganda donated  Ugx 5m.

Mutebile’s family members and friends led by Mutebile wife Betty Kyakyo Mutebile appreciated Kabale Sports Club for recognizing his achievements as the patron of Kabale Sports Club as she also said they met the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese and visited the Hospital and identified the area where the Unit will be established at the Hospital.

Joseph Mutebile the younger brother of the late governor says that on behalf of the foundation expressed the family commitment to realigning one of the late governor’s unfulfilled dreams.

He said the Dialysis Unit at Rugarama hospital is envisioned to be a beacon of hope for those in need of kidney treatment saying that they are now engaging health professionals and local authorities to procure the equipment and have it operationalized soon.

Edna Nyakaisiki  the  CEO of the   Tumusiime Mutebile foundation  said that the  foundation are in plans to  establish a modern Dialysis Unit at Rugarama Hospital in Kabale which will tackle Kidney health challenges or diseases of some patients.

She says that The Initiative which is being undertaken in memory and honor of the late governor of Bank Uganda Professor Mutebile is aimed at tackling a critical medical kidney treatment need in Kigezi region and Other special contributions of the Foundation have been sponsorship of an annual golf tournament at Kabale sports club, paying school fees for the needy and bright children and tree planting.

Professor Mutebile passed on in 2022 with Kidney complications among other health diseases. The Foundation, founded to carry forward the great legacy of the late governor seeks to make substantial contributions to Kigezi community’s wellbeing in health and other fields of life to impact on the people of Kigezi and beyond as the  unit will particularly treat patients with renal complications especially for those patients that cannot afford the treatment elsewhere as it is very costly
