‘HE GAVE US LIFE!’ Bunyaruguru Voters Hail Mp Cadet Over Clean Water Project After Years of Misery

RUBIRIZI — Jubilant residents of Kikuba Village in Ndekye Ward, Rubirizi District, are singing praises of Bunyaruguru’s re-elected Member of Parliament, Cadet Benjamin Buturo, after he delivered a clean water project that is already changing lives and ending years of misery.
The water project, valued at more than UGX 6 million, has brought relief to hundreds of residents who for years survived on unsafe water sources and endured long treks in search of clean water. But for many residents, the project is more than just a water source—it is another sign of what they describe as Hon. Cadet’s unwavering commitment to the people who entrusted him with leadership.

Unlike many politicians who wait for government funding before responding to community needs, residents say Cadet has repeatedly used his personal resources to tackle urgent challenges facing his constituents. The latest water project adds to a growing list of interventions that have earned him admiration across Bunyaruguru.
For years, families in Kikuba Village depended on water from Lake Kigezi, exposing themselves to disease and danger. Women and children spent hours every day walking long distances to fetch water, while many school-going children regularly missed classes because of the burden.
Those difficult days, residents say, are now becoming a thing of the past.

Led by community members including Tumwesigye Mangara and Kasande Merab, residents described the project as life-saving and hailed Hon. Cadet for responding to one of their most pressing needs.
“Hon. Cadet has given us life,” one resident said amid celebrations, reflecting the mood of many villagers who gathered to witness the commissioning of the project.
Local leaders also joined in praising the initiative.
Hon. Tugume Muzafaru said the project will significantly improve public health and sanitation while also supporting small-scale agricultural activities that many households depend on for survival.

He urged residents to safeguard the facility and ensure it benefits future generations, describing it as a critical pillar in Bunyaruguru’s development journey.
Fresh from taking his oath of office, Cadet Benjamin Buturo used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to ending water scarcity across Bunyaruguru.
He told residents that the water project is only the beginning of a broader development agenda aimed at improving livelihoods and creating opportunities for communities throughout the constituency.
Supporters point to his extensive connections with development partners, strong national and international networks, and his close working relationship with President Yoweri Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, as factors that place Bunyaruguru in a unique position to attract additional development projects and investments.

Many residents believe these relationships give the constituency a stronger voice at the highest levels of decision-making and increase its chances of benefiting from government and partner-supported initiatives.
Community elders who attended the event said the project demonstrates the value of electing experienced leaders capable of mobilizing resources and influence for the benefit of ordinary citizens.
One elder who travelled from neighboring Rutoto Sub-county summed up the prevailing mood among residents with a statement that drew loud applause.
“We did not just elect a man; we elected a bridge to opportunity.”
As clean water finally flows into Kikuba Village, many residents say the project represents more than infrastructure—it represents hope, dignity and a promise that Bunyaruguru’s development journey is gathering momentum under a leader they believe has both the experience and influence to deliver results.
