KAMPALA– The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has launched a nationwide Blood Donation Drive, calling on staff, customers and the public to donate blood and help save lives as the company marks the 2026 Customer Service Month under the theme “The Extra Mile.”
The drive, organized in partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) and the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS), reflects UEDCL’s commitment to extending service beyond electricity distribution to address critical community needs and contribute to the well-being of Ugandans.

Speaking at the launch, Eng. Joselynne R. Rwabwogo, Managing Director, UEDCL said the blood donation drive embodies the spirit of going beyond routine responsibilities to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
“While our core responsibility is to distribute electricity and improve the reliability of supply, our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond. Through this blood donation drive, we are taking the extra mile by contributing to a cause that directly saves lives,” Rwabwogo said.
The Managing Director acknowledged that power supply reliability remains a key priority and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to addressing the current challenges affecting service delivery.
“We recognize that our customers expect reliable electricity, and a responsive service. We are working to strengthen our distribution network through substation upgrades, refurbishment of distribution lines and improvements in outage response and restoration.

While these interventions are ongoing, we remain conscious of the challenges customers continue to experience and are committed to making steady and tangible improvements. Going the extra mile means listening to our customers, acting on their concerns and demonstrating, through our actions, that their well-being matters to us,” she added.
Blood remains a critical resource in healthcare, supporting the treatment of accident victims, mothers experiencing complications during childbirth, children with severe anemia and patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures. Voluntary blood donation is therefore essential to maintaining supplies for patients whose lives depend on timely transfusions.
Robert Kwesiga, Secretary General, Uganda Red Cross Society said the organization is partnering with UEDCL to encourage more people to embrace blood donation as an act of solidarity and community service.
“Blood donation is one of the most direct and meaningful ways individuals can help save lives. Every day, patients require blood for emergencies, childbirth complications, surgery and the treatment of serious illnesses.

We encourage all eligible Ugandans to come forward and donate blood because the blood donated today could be the lifeline someone needs tomorrow.” Said Kwesiga,
The Uganda Blood Transfusion Service, the national body responsible for blood transfusion safety and the provision of blood and blood products to health facilities, will provide the technical expertise required to support safe blood collection through the initiative.
“A reliable supply of safe blood depends on a consistent pool of voluntary, unpaid donors. Blood cannot be manufactured; it must come from people who are willing to give it. Public private partnerships such as this one with UEDCL are important because they help mobilize new donors and encourage regular donation. We urge eligible staff, customers and members of the public to participate and help ensure that patients can access safe blood when they need it most.”
The blood donation drive will involve mobilization across UEDCL’s 15 territories, including Mukono, Kampala Metro, Bombo, Entebbe Nakulabye, Lira, Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Kitgum, Mbarara, Hoima, Fort portal, Masaka and Kabale. The company targets to raise 3000 units of blood.
Through the 2026 Blood Donation Drive, UEDCL seeks to turn the spirit of “The Extra Mile” into action, demonstrating that a company’s contribution to society is measured not only by the services it provides but also by the lives it helps improve.
