In the heart of Kamwokya, a community where access to quality healthcare often remains a distant dream for many families, Friday, October 16, 2026, brought profound healing, relief, and human dignity.

From 8:00 AM, the grounds of the SDA Church in Kamwokya swelled with hundreds of mothers holding anxious infants, elderly men walking with weary steps, and young workers seeking relief from long-ignored ailments. They came carrying heavy burdens of untreated infections, severe dental pain, failing eyesight, and unmanaged chronic conditions.

By 5:00 PM, over 1,085 vulnerable community members had been registered, screened, counseled, and treated—without anyone paying a shilling.

Organized through a partnership between dfcu Bank and the Rotary Clubs of Kitante, Kyadondo, and Kampala City—alongside dedicated Rotaractors from Kitante, Kampala City, ISBAT University, and Kyadondo—the Mega Medical Camp turned the church grounds into a sanctuary of comprehensive care.

For many residents, the camp’s impact went far beyond basic medical checkups; it was a matter of life and restored hope.

“I have been suffering from infections and ulcers, but also my child has had some pain,” shared one young mother, her eyes reflecting deep relief as she clutched a package of prescribed medicines. “I thank dfcu for bringing us medical care, and I think we will be fine.”

An elderly woman from the local parish expressed similar heartfelt gratitude as she received her free consultation and prescriptions: “Firstly, I thank dfcu Bank and Rotary Club who have brought us the medical care in Kamwokya. I thank all the doctors and everyone who has offered their services here.”

The scale of the intervention addressed critical healthcare gaps across all age groups. A total of 91 patients received urgent dental care, 83 received optical support, 59 accessed specialized reproductive health services through Marie Stopes, and 71 generous individuals donated blood to save lives. Women received life-saving cervical and breast cancer screenings alongside antenatal care, while men were screened for prostate cancer and offered safe male circumcision services, alongside young boys. Comprehensive testing for malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, H. pylori, and sickle cell disease ran continuously throughout the day.

Speaking during the medical camp as he donated blood alongside fellow volunteers, the Board Chairman of dfcu Limited, Mr. Jimmy D. Mugerwa, underscored the bank’s core philosophy of purpose-driven community impact.

“Our purpose for dfcu is an existence not just to provide financial solutions, but also to transform the lives of the people who support us,” stated Mr. Mugerwa. “It is therefore our pleasure that when we partner with an organization like Rotary Uganda, it brings the purpose home.”

Highlighting the power of corporate and civic collaboration, the President of the Rotary Club of Kitante, Mr. David Balikuddembe, emphasized that impactful community service relies on strong, shared values.

“As Rotarians, our main job is to demonstrate the impact we make in the community in such a way that we are able to attract solid partners,” said Mr. Balikuddembe. “So today we are celebrating such a collaboration where the main sponsor, dfcu Bank, has supported us massively to be able to deliver today’s medical camp.”

Breaking long-standing social stigmas, the day integrated mental health directly into its services on equal footing with physical health. Specialists from the Break Free Mental Health Care & Rehabilitation Center provided private, compassionate counseling spaces for individuals dealing with severe stress, grief, depression, and anxiety.

As twilight fell over Kamwokya and the medical teams packed away their equipment, the day’s true legacy remained: lives renewed, ailments relieved, and a community reminded they are neither forgotten nor alone.
