OGWANG-ENGEKU SHOWDOWN! Minister Gives Ex-MP Aspirant 3 Days to Apologise Over Shs20M Debt Claim to Host Gen Muhoozi in Teso

Simon Julius Engeku (R) alleges he lent Minster Ogwang shs20 million to host Gen. Muhoozi in Teso.
The State Minister for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, has demanded an apology and the removal of a TikTok video in which former Kapelebyong County parliamentary candidate Simon Julius Engeku alleges that the minister owes him 20 million Shillings.
The demand follows a video Engeku posted on TikTok and WhatsApp on Monday, claiming that Ogwang borrowed 20 million Shillings from him through intermediaries during a visit to the Teso sub-region by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in August 2023.
Ogwang denies borrowing the money, stating that he is unaware of any such transaction. According to the notice, the allegations and their implied meaning are false, malicious and defamatory, portraying the minister as dishonest and financially unreliable.
His lawyers argue that the claims expose him to public ridicule and damage his reputation. In a defamation notice dated October 27, 2026, Ogwang, through his lawyers, E. Wamimbi Advocates & Solicitors, demands that Engeku immediately remove the video from his TikTok account, publish a clear and factual clarification with equal prominence and issue an unequivocal written apology by October 30.
The lawyers warn that failure to comply will result in legal proceedings without further notice. They state that Ogwang will seek 500 million in damages, together with interest and legal costs. “Take notice that, should you fail to comply with the above demands by October 30, 2026, we shall, without further notice to you, institute legal proceedings against you for defamation,” the notice states.
In the video that prompted the notice, Engeku claimed that he gave Ogwang 20 million during General Muhoozi’s visit to Teso in August 2023, with the understanding that the money would be repaid within two days after the visit.
Engeku alleged that he handed over the money through intermediaries at the minister’s request, naming former Soroti District chairperson Simon Peter Edoru, Elimu, former Soroti Resident District Commissioner Salim Komakech and Denis Ojok as people who were present during the transaction.
He further claimed that repeated attempts to contact Ogwang had been unsuccessful, alleging that the minister neither answered his calls nor responded to his messages. He also claimed that attempts to meet the minister at his office had been unsuccessful.
Engeku maintained that his demand was not politically motivated but was intended solely to recover what he described as money he had lent to the minister.
