Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday heaped praise on the country’s first surgeon, Prof. Alexander Mwa Odonga who died last week, lauding him for upholding medical ethics in his lifetime.

This was during a visit to the fallen surgeon’s home in Naguru, a push suburb in the capital, Kampala.
“I have paid my last respects to Prof. Alexander Mwa Odonga at his home in Naguru, Kampala. Prof Odonga, who served as dean of Makerere Medical School, was Uganda’s first surgeon & worked for 47 years,” Museveni said in a tweet.

The president also revealed how the fallen professor had treated a foreign envoy on a visit to Uganda.
“I got to know him 15 years ago when he treated a visiting top dignitary who had suffered intestinal obstruction,” Museveni revealed before adding, “I was proud of him. Not only did he uphold medical ethics but also Uganda’s reputation. His contribution is lauded. I thank the widow for looking after him. His children and other young people should emulate him.”

He will be laid to rest on Thursday 1st September 2016 at 12:00noon at St. Philips Cathedral Cementery.
