Buhweju Echo-Tourism Festival Marks Third Anniversary with Vibrant Celebrations

BUHWEJU, Uganda – On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the Centre for Integrated Community Development (CICD)-Uganda, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental protection, celebrated the third anniversary of the Buhweju Echo-Tourism Festival at Nyakishenyi Playground in Buhweju West Constituency.

The event aimed to promote cultural preservation, eco-tourism, and climate action under Uganda’s Go-Green campaign.

The festival drew notable figures, including Chief Warden of Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP), Dr. Erick Enywar, who served as the guest of honor,Represented by Mr. Julius Obwona, a warden and law enforcement officer at QENP and an affiliate of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Dr. Enywar praised CICD-Uganda’s efforts in advancing cultural preservation and eco-tourism in Buhweju District and beyond.

He highlighted tourism’s critical role in national development, attributing its success to Uganda’s natural beauty and collaboration between communities and environmental organizations like CICD-Uganda.

Buhweju District LC V Chairperson, Deo Atuhaire, announced that the government has allocated over 40 million Uganda Shillings to support production, commercial development, and tourism promotion in the region.

He urged CICD-Uganda to strengthen partnerships with other development stakeholders to further enhance the tourism sector.Eng. JohnBosco Kariisa, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Buhweju West Constituency, emphasized the district’s hilly terrain as a key attraction for tourists.

He also commended CICD-Uganda for its innovative approaches to development and called on investors, tourists, and supportive organizations to unite in promoting eco-tourism across Uganda.

In an interview, CICD-Uganda’s Founding Director, Jonan Nduhuura, appealed to the media, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Queen Elizabeth National Park leaders, and youth to join the climate action campaign.

He noted challenges such as poor road infrastructure and community disunity, which have hindered tourism development efforts. Nduhuura also stressed the importance of tree planting as part of the national Go-Green initiative.

The third annual Buhweju Echo-Tourism Exhibition 2025 aligns with President Yoweri Museveni’s vision to transform Uganda into a premier global tourism destination.

The event underscored the need for strategic planning and infrastructure development to achieve this goal.

CICD-Uganda’s ongoing efforts continue to spotlight Buhweju’s cultural and natural treasures, fostering sustainable tourism and environmental conservation for the benefit of local communities and the nation at large.
