The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) recently concluded a successful Governance and Finance Workshop with General Secretaries and Finance Directors of the COSAFA Zonal Union in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Confederation of African Football Caf Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna has said it is important for the governing body to capacitate all its Member Associations.

This, she said, will ensure that they are well-equipped to run efficient and financially sound Associations that enjoy success both on and off the field according to cafonline.
“The evolution of African football in recent times is quite exciting to witness, thanks to the tireless efforts being put in across all CAF divisions. Equally so, it is important that this success is supported by an administration that is efficiently governed and financially sound. As the Member Associations division, we are excited about this continental drive of ensuring that our Member Associations practice good governance, which has been proven to translate into good success on the field of play” said Mukuna.
The three-day workshop which took place between 02 and 04 November and had participants from  South Africa (host), Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, Angola, Namibia, Seychelles, Mauritius, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.  saw the governing body of African football – led by its Member Associations Division, conduct an in-depth Governance and Finance workshop for the zonal union.  The key event is part of the ongoing efforts by CAF to achieve the objective of growing African football and making it globally competitive and self-sustaining, as envisioned by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

With the increasing rise in global appetite and commercial strength that CAF is generating under the leadership of Dr Motsepe, CAF is embarking on a continental drive across all its Member Associations in capaciting them in establishing efficient governance and sound financial practices within their respective associations.
The workshop covered key matters pertaining to the successful running of an association which included Legal & Regulatory Frameworks, Conflict of interest, Financial Processes, Revenue Generation as well as Procurement Processes amongst others.
CAF Safeguarding was also a featured topic of discussion ahead of the new season of the CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC).
Applauding CAF on behalf of the Zonal Union was COSAFA President, Mr Artur de Almeida e Silva.
“It’s the first time CAF organizes a seminar like this, and it’s very important for our Member Associations. As COSAFA, we believe that this is important because good governance is key for all football stakeholders for football to succeed in Africa. The workshop also touched on important aspects such as compliance and safeguarding which are all key to the development of African football”.
The CAF Governance and Finance workshops have been divided into four, with all 54 Member Associations being demarcated into English and French-speaking countries.
CAF will soon announce the date and details of the next workshops which are scheduled for 2024.
