Buganda Road Court yesterday extended the earlier summons issued against Moroto Grade One magistrate Grace Balintuma, accused of theft.
Balintuma faces two counts of theft and two counts of meddling with properties of a deceased person, in contravention of Section 11 (1) of the Administrator General’s Act.
She had been scheduled to appear in court today and plead to the criminal charges preferred against her but she instead sent her lawyer Peter Sebyuma on grounds that she was feeling unwell.
Accordingly, presiding Grade One Magistrate Simon Kintu extended her summons to January 28. The initial summons was issued on December 10.
Prosecution alleges that the accused committed the offenses when she was a Grade One Magistrate at Buganda Road Court about three years ago.
Further, the prosecution claims that on October 22, 2009 at Housing Finance Bank in Kampala, Balintuma stole Ugx 32 million belonging to the late Captain Charles Karemera and assumed Captain Karemera’s property without authorization by the Administrator General.
On the other count, the charge sheet states that the magistrate, between November 2004 and June 2012 at Housing Finance Bank, meddled in the property of the late Lt. Edmond Mujuni and on August 16, 2013 stole more than Ugx 14 million.
