Govt Urged to Prioritize Infrastructure as Uganda Marks 63 Years of Independence

As Uganda celebrates 63 years of independence, Rushenyi County Member of Parliament, Hon. Naome Kabasharira, has called on the government to intensify efforts in infrastructure development to address key service delivery gaps. In her Independence Day message to the people of Rushenyi and the nation at large, Kabasharira acknowledged the progress Uganda has made since gaining independence in 1962.

However, she emphasized that more needs to be done, particularly in the critical sectors of roads, health, and education. “At 63 years, tarmac roads should have reached most parts of the country to support economic growth,” Kabasharira said, “Hospitals and health centres, especially in rural communities, still lack essential services and need urgent government attention.”

She also expressed concern over recurring strikes by teachers in government schools, noting that such actions are indicative of unresolved issues within the education sector. The MP further highlighted the pressing issue of youth unemployment, urging the government to create sustainable opportunities for the growing young population. She stressed that tackling joblessness is key to ensuring Ugandans can meaningfully celebrate the country’s independence milestones.

“As leaders and members of Parliament, we are working with the government to create avenues for reducing unemployment and poverty,” she said. Despite the challenges, Kabasharira remained optimistic about the future under President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership.

“We believe that in the years to come, challenges in service delivery will be addressed for the continued development of our country. Rome was not built in a day let us unite and build Uganda,” she concluded.
