Two first half goals were enough for hosts Niger to beat Uganda Cranes 2-0 in an International friendly match played in Niamey on Tuesday night.
Kamilou Daouda gave the home team the lead after 10 minutes with a long range shot that found goalkeeper Robert Odongkara off guard. Issiakou Koudize made it 2-0 after 18 minutes as they found the Cranes defense disorganized.
The Cranes who missed scoring opportunities by Brian Umony and AS Vita’s youngster Yunus Junuir Ssentamu were later reduced by one player when skipper Andrew Mwesigwa was red carded in the 89th minute.
The two teams used the mat ch as a rehearsal as they prepare for 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers this weekend. While Niger will host Cape Verde, Uganda who last appeared in the 1978 Afcon will be away to the Black Stars of Ghana.
The Cranes will remain camped in Niger till Thursday when they connect to Ghana ahead of the match slated for September 6th in Kumasi.
Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and his technical team will have to make some adjustments in the tactical formations at the back and also in attack in the absence of the team’s leading scorer Geoffrey Massa whose team University of Pretoria refused to release him on time to fly to Niamey.
After the opening Group E tie away to Ghana, the Cranes will host Guinea on September 10th at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
