Charles Ireland, the Group Managing Director East African Breweries Limited tees off to officially launch the 2014 Tusker Malt Uganda Open
The Tusker Malt-sponsored 72nd edition tees off at the newly-redesigned par-71 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course this morning, officially started on Monday with the official practice round before the Pro Am today.
Zimbabwe’s top professional golfer, Charles Tongoona Charamba drew the first blood, winning the Pro Am event of the 2014 Uganda Open at Uganda Golf Club on Tuesday.
Charamba shot a course 2 under par score of 69 beating off stiff competition from Deo Akope (71 gross), Kenya’s Simon Ngige (73 gross) and Kenya’s Dismus Ndiza (with a 1 over par score of 72).
The main event swung into action on Wednesday morning with a field of about 100 golfers taking part.
Later in the week, the subsidiary category of the tournament will tee off where another crop of about 200 golfers are expected to take part.
The course has had a change-over on the greens, and fairways and roughs have been given a new touch. The course will be played as a par 71 for the Open following the reduction of the yardage to hole-No.13 which has been reduced from a par 5 to a par 4.
