NRM PRIMARIES! Mbarara City Mayor Loser Murari wants Winner Kakyebezi Disqualified

The former aspiring City Mayor for Mbarara City who lost in the just concluded NRM Primary polls, Seth Murari has threatened to return as an independent if winner and incumbent Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi’s is not nullified.

In the recent NRM primaries for Mbarara City Mayoral race, the incumbent Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi was declared as the winner/ flag bearer defeating his tight opponent Seth Murari and the rest by an immense margin of votes. Kakyebezi garnered 19800 votes 41% and Murari managed to get 12926 votes 28.2%, a difference of 6,874 votes in favor of Kakyebezi.
However, Murari has expressed his dissatisfaction challenging the results declared by the City NRM Registrars, he claims that the voting exercise had some irregularities, something he’s basing on to petition the NRM Secretariat demanding for judgement in his favor by disqualifying Mayor Kakyebezi as the City Mayor NRM flag bearer.
During a press conference that was held on Monday 28.07.2025 in Booma, Murari broke the silence and told the journalists that he is preparing his petition to the NRM Secretariat to challenge the results of Mbarara City Mayoral race in which Kakyebezi was declared as the winner.
“I am following the petition closely, Kakyebezi should be disqualified and the NRM Secretariat made many mistakes which Kakyebezi took advantage of, and because of that I don’t agree with the polling results they brought in.
“Therefore, I will decide either to come back as an independent or not later after the decision from the NRM part electoral Commission/ NRM Secretariat following my petition, but as of now I cannot give you any word that am coming back, but I ask Mbarara City to stay calm, to stay hopeful, to stay faithful and stay focused because i’m still here to serve you,” said Murari.
However, sources reveal that that Mayor Kakyebezi was genuinely declared as the winner for Mbarara City Mayoral race depending on the votes casted from the polling stations. That violence in the election was allegedly caused by the Murari’s camp, but because of tight security, they were blocked to rig the votes.
It is also witnessed that there are three main polling stations in town where the voting was not concluded due to violence allegedly caused by one of the candidate’s camp after realising that Kakyebezi was leading overwhelmingly in those particular polling centres. Among the three areas where the votes were not counted include, Kirembe cell polling station, Taxi park polling station Muti Cell and Global High school play ground.
Among the other candidates who were in the same race and were defeated by Kakyebezi include; Herbert Kamugisha Mutungi 6541 votes, Dan Ruhemba 4137 votes, Evelyne Walimbwa 2984 votes, Godwin Nsiimire 343 votes and Elias Ahimbisibwe 91 votes.
