The deceased are Richard Kilama and his wife Milly Akello, 8-year-old Alanyo 8, Mugisha 7, Prossy Alimocan 2 and 1 year old Omara. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa regional Police spokesperson says the Kilama relocated to his home village in Nyowa County after his wife abandoned him in Kitgum.

He however, says Akello followed Kilama to Nyowa on December 27th where they have been staying since then. According to Okema, some residents claim that they saw Kilama with a jerry can of Petrol days before the incident.

Okema says despite the fact that, Kilama was sleeping in a different hut he found his way into the hut where Akello was staying with the children and set it on fire.

Okema says that the incident occurred as the relatives of the couple were trying to reconcile them. He advises against ending their lives out of rage and instead seek counseling.

On Tuesday this week, Geoffrey Buci Oluni, a resident of Zaipi Sub County in Adjumani district was burnt beyond recognition in his house in Nimule. One person has since been arrested for arson.
