Thousands of Muslims who gathered at Abubakar Mosque in Mbarara City for Eid Mubarak prayers have been urged to stop blaming the government for neglect and instead actively engage in government wealth creation programs to improve their livelihoods.
The strong message was delivered by the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje through his representative Yusuf Abdul Azizi from the Uganda Muslim Council during the Eid celebrations.
Muslim leaders challenged believers to abandon the mentality that they are sidelined from benefiting from government programs and instead organize themselves into groups and associations through which the government can channel support and development opportunities.
The leaders emphasized that Muslims cannot benefit from government interventions if they remain divided and unorganized.
In the same spirit, Kashari South Member of Parliament Rtd. Capt. Johnbosco Tumusiime Bamuturaki condemned growing criticism of government programs, sectarianism, religious divisions and misconceptions among believers, urging wananchi to concentrate on fighting poverty and corruption instead of endless politics.
Bamuturaki reminded residents that the election season is over and leaders should now focus on service delivery and development.
Addressing Muslims from Mbarara District especially Kashari South County, the legislator appealed to wananchi to return to work and stop engaging in unnecessary politicking.
He also called upon leaders who were voted into office to unite and work together as one team in order to fulfill the expectations of the electorate.
Bamuturaki further rallied leaders to implement President Yoweri Museveni’s slogan of “Kisanja no sleep, kisanja no corruption” by sensitizing communities on poverty eradication and exposing corruption tendencies at grassroots level.
“All leaders must tell the people that let us work hard and get out of poverty and fight corruption as the President urges. We must supervise government programs in our areas and where they are not performing well, leaders should report the challenges to responsible authorities,” Bamuturaki said.
The MP also warned leaders against discriminating against citizens based on religion or political affiliation, insisting that service delivery must reach all Ugandans equally regardless of who supported them during elections.
The Eid prayers attracted massive crowds of Muslims from across Mbarara City and surrounding districts as believers marked the holy celebrations with prayers for peace, unity and economic transformation.
