CONTROVERSIAL! Minister Mayanja cites errors in Buganda anthem
Lands minister Mayanja

State Minister Dr Sam Mayanja (who has specialized at finding fault in Kabaka Mutebi & his Buganda Kingdom) has demanded a new anthem for Buganda Kingdom in case the current one (composed by Polycap Kakooza) cannot be amended. He says the current Buganda Kingdom anthem deserves to be amended, and some lines deleted, because it’s full of factual misrepresentations.

Leveraging on his weekly program on 100.5 Bukedde fm which airs (7-8pm) every Sunday, Mayanja said it’s unacceptable to characterize any man (Kabaka inclusive) as “Baffe” which makes him husband of all men. He added that it’s equally erroneous and an act of provocative misrepresentation to describe Buganda as “lino eggwanga Buganda” because you legally can’t have a country within a country. Mayanja says all these are misrepresentations because no man can or should accept having another man being described as their husband.

Mayanja added that the titles portraying Kabaka as the husband of all men is part of what Milton Obote would use to do his sarcasm while demonizing Buganda during his speeches at public functions. “Obote was a good friend of Sir Edward Mutesa who even made him President for the whole country and one time he sarcastically referred to the fact that the title Ssabasajja meant husband for all men and Mutesa didn’t correct him on that wrong impression,” Mayanja said.
He suggested that Baganda should get used to referring to their King using less controversial titles like Ssabataaka because to him, “Mutebi is just a cultural leader just like any other clan leader in Buganda.” The Minister said that his proposal to amend the Buganda anthem is in good faith because the times have changed and the original wording of the stanzas doesn’t match dictates of the current times anymore.

He added that Polycap Kakooza, who he used to watch and listen to on defunct WBS TV while appearing on veteran journalist Drake Ssekeba’s program, was a well-intentioned man who couldn’t have intended to create the mischief similar to what he currently reads in the composition of Buganda Kingdom anthem.
