TRAGIC! Mystery Deaths Rock Ibanda University, Alliance Schools As Second Director Dies In One Year, Questions Emerge

Mourning and unanswered questions have engulfed Ibanda’s education fraternity following the death of prominent businessman and educationist Jeeb Rwomushana, whose death comes about a year after another director linked to Ibanda University and Alliance Educational Institutions, Wilson Ahimbisa, also died.
Rwomushana, a key figure in the establishment and growth of Ibanda University in Western Uganda, served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and headed the promoters of Alliance Educational Institutions.
News of his death has triggered an outpouring of grief among members of the academic community, former students and people in Ibanda District, where he was regarded as one of the figures behind the expansion of private education.
However, the circumstances surrounding his death had not been publicly disclosed by the time of publication.
His death has also brought renewed attention to the loss of two prominent figures associated with the same education network within a relatively short period.
No evidence has been presented linking the two deaths, and the circumstances surrounding Rwomushana’s death remain unclear.
EDUCATION PIONEER

Rwomushana was among the key figures behind the establishment of Ibanda University, which opened in 2014. He chaired the university project’s planning committee and served as a long-time leader of its governing structures.
Beyond the university, he played a leading role in Alliance Educational Institutions, including Alliance Secondary School and Alliance Vocational School.
His education career also included service as head teacher of Muntuyera High School, adding to his influence in the region’s education sector.
Rwomushana studied at Kyambogo National Teachers College, where he obtained a Diploma in Education in 1966–1967, before proceeding to Makerere University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
His contribution to education centred on expanding learning opportunities in Western Uganda, particularly through the development of institutions serving students beyond the country’s major urban centres.
Rwomushana had also suffered a family bereavement in 2020 when his wife, Maria Rwomushana, died at Mbarara Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.
Maria, 68, had worked as a secretary in several schools and left behind four children, including Arthur Nuwagaba Rwomushana, a former aspirant for the Ibanda Municipality parliamentary seat.
ANOTHER DIRECTOR LOST
Rwomushana’s death follows that of Wilson Ahimbisa, another prominent figure associated with Ibanda University and Alliance institutions, who died last year after a short illness.
Ahimbisa served as a director of Ibanda University and Alliance Secondary School, as well as Alliance Vocational School. He was also linked to Cheetah Security Company and other business ventures.
At Ibanda University, he chaired the Human Resource Sub-Committee of the university project.

He held a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Uganda Pentecostal University, obtained between 2007 and 2010, and a Diploma in Education from Butare University in Rwanda, earned between 1996 and 1997.
Ahimbisa was a brother to Elly Katsigire, a former parliamentary contestant in Rwampara. He was buried in Nyabikungu, Rwampara, following his death.
The passing of the two men has cast a shadow over institutions with which they were closely associated, although no evidence has established a connection between their deaths.
